Sciences

• Pharmacology
  • Pharmacokinetics in the form of a 'how-to' guide - minimal consideration of derivations.
  • Details on derivations and some more involved methods are in this version.
• Physiology
  • A calculation to show that the change in ion concentrations during an action potential is small compared to the absolute concentrations inside and outside the neuron.
  • Notes on calculating acid-base balance, e.g. in arterial blood gases.
• Mathematical principles
  • Algebra problems, to practice rearranging equations, along with solutions.
  • Short account about logarithms. Basic for a physicist, but may be of use to those who need to use logs but haven't had chance to learn what they represent.
  • Statistics for the ISBM course. The precise content reflects the Cambridge course, but hopefully the information will be useful to others.
• Critical Appraisal
  • Definitions relevant to Critical Appraisal
  • Contingency table calculator will calculate parameters (prevalence, postive and negative predictive values, sensitivity and specificity) from a 2x2 table, or the reverse. Intended to facilitate exploration of the concepts by experimentation.
